Neville's Story

Created by Colleen & The Family 4 years ago

Neville was born in Rangoon, Burma in 1933. He was the eldest son of Frank and Noreen Windsor. He had 6 siblings.

When Japan invaded Burma in 1942, his family were evacuated to India and returned to Burma after the war. He married Colleen (Shepherd) on 22nd October 1955 at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Rangoon, where they both were very active members. Neville and Colleen went on to have 3 children, Penny (now 63), Mark (61) and Lorraine (54).

The Immanuel Baptist Church was run by American Baptist missionaries. Neville was selected by the church to attend an American Baptist Seminary. Unfortunately, although he was very keen to attend, his family commitments meant he was unable to do so.

Neville worked in Rangoon for Steel Brothers in the finance department, which was a British company. His work was of such a high standard, that the company selected him to travel to the UK in 1957 to train as an accountant, which he achieved through a great deal of hard work and study. A few months later, Colleen joined Neville in the UK with their eldest daughter Penny, who was eight months old at the time.

Neville had a long and successful career, working as a Chartered Certified Accountant in several companies and retired at the age of 60 having completed his career with the Ministry of Defence.

During his life, Neville accomplished many things including learning Spanish, French, playing Flamenco Guitar and writing books on his life. He was an ambassador at the 2012 London Olympics, a role which he undertook with great pride. He loved current affairs and always enjoyed a good debate with friends and family. He enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge, travel, gardening, exercise and all the beauty of nature.

One of his greatest sources of pride was to become a Grandfather to Penny and husband Bernie's two children Hannah and Thomas.

Neville was in his beloved garden right up until the day he became ill. We feel privileged to have shared so many happy memories with him. Neville lived a life dedicated to God's service, always putting the needs of others first. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and we trust that the Lord will guide him safely into His presence and may his soul rest in peace.
